Check out our new launched sweater! We know you want it. Want to know what it’s all about?

For Lunar New Year 2022, we teamed up with Gabrielle Widjaja (aka Gentle Oriental) to create a piece highlighting the Asian diaspora, from our corner of the world to yours. Gabrielle is a Chinese-Indonesian creative raised in California and focused on using art to tell and retell the stories and histories of Asian Americans.

And she knows that, at DAWANG, our clothes tell stories.

So, for our LNY 22 sweater, we wanted to give a nod to the zodiac, but we wanted to do it our way.

Why the tiger?

It’s the year of the tiger, of course! Our DAWANG fam is fierce. We need a sweater that is the same. Gabrielle took inspiration from the story of Wu Song, a character from the Water Margin (one of the four most well-known novels in China). Wu Song is fierce, for sure — known for his role in the classic story Outlaws of the Marsh, he downed 15 bowls of liquor and killed a tiger in the forest with his bare hands (Disclaimer: we can’t promise our sweater will give you this power, but we can promise it will make you have the coolest fit at any LNY celebration). By incorporating this story as the background for our illustration, we wanted to express our Lunar New Year wishes to everyone: slay the year of the tiger!

And, why water?

Besides the animal zodiac, Chinese tradition also follows the Five Elements五行 (wǔxíng) : metal, water, wood, fire, and earth. 2022 is the year of the Water Tiger. These two signs only meet every 60 years — so, like this combo, this sweater is basically once in a lifetime!

Tigers represent courage, confidence and ambition. Water ties into the wise and the intuitive. When you wear our LNY 22 sweater, we hope you are reminded that all of these things are within you.

This drop includes the Slay the Water Tiger Cardigan, the Ganbei Scarf (reversible double-sided), and 4 beanies (with 3 different motifs embroidered; Ganbei, Tiger, and Fortune Bloom).

Show us how you wear your tiger! We know you’ll be looking fierce 💙

I was just watching Nora from Queens the grandma had a cardigan from your store, called Slay The Dragon cardigan. Will that ever be restocked?
Thanks
